Freya Kruger
Internal Medicine
DVM, MS, DACVIM
Hi, my name is Dr. Kruger, and I am a board-certified internist at TruVet. I fell in love with Sonoma County during my training and have been proud to call it home and serve its community ever since.
Personal Hobbies and Interests
Outside of work, I enjoy hiking, fitness, gardening, and exploring Sonoma County. I also love travelling and have an extensive list of new places I would like to visit. I spend most of my free time with my partner and our dogs.
Favorite Part of My Job
I truly enjoy all aspects of Internal Medicine — the complexity of the cases, the opportunity to dig deep into a diagnosis, and the relationships I build with patients and their families over time. Every case is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference.
Why I Chose This Profession
I grew up in California's Central Valley raising and showing Quarter horses and Holstein replacement heifers — animals were always a central part of my life. Internal medicine drew me in because of its depth and the opportunity to truly understand what is happening with a patient, often in cases where others have not yet found the answer.
Education
I obtained a Bachelor of Animal Science degree from California Polytechnic State University before earning a Master's degree in Veterinary Medical Sciences from Mississippi State University. I then attended UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, graduating in 2006. Following graduation, I completed a rotating internship at the University of Florida before returning to UC Davis for a residency in Small Animal Internal Medicine from 2007 to 2010.
Professional Background
I am a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (DACVIM), board certified since 2010. I really enjoy all aspects of Internal Medicine, with areas of focus including immune-mediated disease, liver and gastrointestinal disease, urinary tract diseases, endocrine disorders, and ultrasonography.
Memberships
I am a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (DACVIM).
Work History
After completing my residency at UC Davis, I fell in love with Sonoma County and have been practising locally ever since. I have been part of the TruVet team since its founding and am proud to be a cornerstone of our Internal Medicine service.
