Jessica Saksen
Emergency Veterinarian
DVM
Hi, my name is Dr. Saksen, and I am an emergency veterinarian. I am passionate about providing urgent, high-quality care for pets and their families during the moments they need it most.
Personal Hobbies and Interests
Outside of work, I enjoy riding horses, hiking, camping, skiing, scuba diving, and wine tasting. I live in Sebastopol with my husband, toddler, two dogs, and a cat, so there is never a dull moment at home.
Favorite Part of My Job
My favourite thing about practising emergency medicine is the variety each day brings. No two shifts are the same, and being able to provide for pets and their families in the times they need it most is incredibly fulfilling.
Why I Chose This Profession
I grew up in Mendocino County with a deep connection to animals and the natural world. Veterinary medicine felt like a natural path — a way to combine my love of science with my passion for caring for animals and supporting the people who love them.
Education
I attended the University of California, Davis for both my undergraduate education and veterinary school, earning my DVM. Following graduation, I completed a year of advanced training in emergency medicine, surgery, and internal medicine with East Bay Veterinary Specialists.
Professional Background
I am an emergency veterinarian with a background spanning emergency medicine, surgery, and internal medicine. My experience in fast-paced emergency environments has equipped me to handle the wide variety of cases that walk through the door each day with confidence and compassion.
Work History
After completing my advanced training with East Bay Veterinary Specialists, I spent several years working at emergency hospitals in the Sacramento area. I recently relocated to Sebastopol and am excited to be back closer to home in Northern California.
