Kim Tong
Surgery
DVM, DACVS (SA)
Hi, my name is Dr. Tong, and I am a board-certified veterinary surgeon at TruVet. I am driven by a deep empathy for animals and their owners, and I find great fulfilment in guiding families through their pet's medical journey.
Personal Hobbies and Interests
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family — my wife, two children, and beloved pets Bailey the Beagle and Miss Daisy the Shih Tzu. I am a culinary enthusiast who loves exploring the diverse food scene of Northern California, and an enthusiastic supporter of the Golden State Warriors and the San Francisco 49ers.
Favorite Part of My Job
I find fulfilment in working closely with clients, guiding them through their pets' medical journeys, and striving to provide effective solutions to their concerns. The trust families place in me is something I take deeply seriously and am grateful for every day.
Why I Chose This Profession
I originally grew up in San Francisco without pets, but a transformative experience volunteering at an animal ER in San Diego during my undergraduate years changed everything. I embraced that newfound calling wholeheartedly and have never looked back.
Education
I earned my veterinary degree from the University of California, Davis, followed by a rotating internship at Michigan State University and a surgical internship at Dallas Veterinary Surgical Centers. I then completed my surgical residency at the Animal Medical Center in New York City. I have also completed advanced certifications in IMEX External Skeletal Fixation, Arthrex VA3 Arthroscopy, BioMedtrix Universal and Nano Total Hip, and AOVET Advanced Fracture Management.
Professional Background
My surgical interests span minimally invasive surgery (laparoscopy, arthroscopy, and orthopedics), Total Hip Replacement, neurosurgery, correction of congenital deformities, oncologic surgery, and advanced orthopedics. I am committed to bringing the highest standard of surgical care to every patient.
Memberships
I am a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons — Small Animal (DACVS-SA), board certified since 2016.
Work History
Following my residency and board certification in 2016, I dedicated my career to serving the Bay Area community, bringing advanced surgical expertise to pets and their families across the region.
