Hi, my name is Rowan, and I am a Veterinary Assistant at TruVet. I bring an Aloha spirit from my home state of Hawaii and a deep commitment to providing excellent, compassionate, Fear-Free care for every animal I meet.

Personal Hobbies and Interests

Outside of work, I love diving, swimming, hiking, surfing, and training my animals. I am also a former college cheerleader and lifelong dancer with 14 years of experience. I share my home with my husband Rilee and six wonderful animal companions: Ruby, Aila, Kona, Shoutz, Peridot, and Smokey.

Favorite Part of My Job

I enjoy the healing aspect of my work and aspire to provide excellent and compassionate care to all the animals in my care. Being part of a patient's recovery journey — from their most difficult moments to walking out the door — is something I find endlessly meaningful.

Why I Chose This Profession

Growing up in Hawaii surrounded by animals and nature, a career in animal care always felt like the right path. I am passionate about making veterinary visits as positive as possible for every patient, and I am committed to continuing to grow and learn throughout my career.

Education

I hold a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Chemistry and Psychology, and I am currently enrolled in the Penn Foster Veterinary Technician programme on my path to becoming an RVT. I am Fear Free Certified, trained in Recover CPR through VCA, and hold anaesthesia and ProHeart 12 certifications.

Professional Background

My background spans dog training, general practice, urgent care, surgery, and emergency and critical care. I am particularly dedicated to creating a Fear-Free and comfortable environment for animals with reactivity or aggression, and I bring a calm, experienced presence to every patient interaction.

Work History

My career in animal care began as a dog trainer before expanding through 4.5 years in a general practice that also handled urgent care and surgery, followed by 1.5 years in emergency and critical care. I have also volunteered on a ranch caring for horses, pigs, goats, and alpacas, and served as a travelling veterinary assistant to rural Maui communities, providing general care and sedated procedures to pets in need. I joined TruVet in July 2025.
