Facing the end of a beloved pet’s life is one of the most difficult experiences a family can go through. Whether age, chronic illness, or declining health has brought you to this decision, your pet deserves dignity, comfort, and respect in their final moments. At TruVet Specialty and Emergency, we are committed to providing compassionate end-of-life care, Quality-of-Life exams, and supporting you every step of the way. Our team prioritizes this service to ensure both you and your pet feel safe, cared for, and at peace during this time.
What to Expect During Your Visit
When you arrive, you and your pet will be brought into a private exam room as soon as one is available. A member of our team will review brief paperwork with you, including legally required questions — such as whether your pet has bitten any person or animal within the past 10 days.
You will be asked:
- Whether you would like to be present during your pet’s passing
- Your preferences for aftercare (home burial, when permitted, or cremation through our trusted partner)
If cremation is selected, your information will be shared with our partner service, who will contact you directly to discuss arrangements and keepsake options.
Quality-of-Life Exams
If you are uncertain whether your pet may still have treatment options available, you may request a Quality-of-Life Exam before making a decision. During this appointment, a veterinarian will review your pet’s history, examine their current condition, and provide thoughtful guidance regarding comfort, treatment possibilities, and whether humane euthanasia is recommended.
The Procedure
Once paperwork is complete, your pet will be gently taken to our treatment area for a moment so an IV catheter can be placed. This allows medications to be administered smoothly and without additional discomfort. Your pet will then be returned to you, and you may spend as much time with them as you wish.
When you feel ready, simply let our team know. The veterinarian will administer the medications calmly and respectfully, and you are welcome to remain with your pet afterward for as long as you need.
At TruVet, we honor the unique bond you share with your companion. Our team approaches every farewell with compassion, tenderness, and empathy — offering quiet support, gentle guidance, and caring hands as your pet crosses the rainbow bridge.
